My enthusiasm for this upcoming election cycle has me at a loss for words, but consider this analogy; have you ever gone to the tool shed looking for something, only to find a valuable item you believed had been lost for good?

I believe this is the year the citizens of America recover a precious item that just needs a little repair and TLC; we take back our government, starting with our local communities all the way up to the White House.

Long ago we relinquished control, we placed trust in individuals we didn’t engage, and chose to be willingly ignorant of the process and purpose of government in our communities, and in society, as a whole. We placed hundreds of millions of dollars in the hands of elected officials, and never even made the effort to examine budgets. The larger the budgets became, the less they wanted to discuss them, enacting rules to detract from public participation.

In the upcoming year, we must focus on this simple message; the political office that you, the citizens, are voting for, belongs to You. The office holder does not possess the office, the voter does! The Republican Party of Jefferson County wants you to realize that this Party exists because of You, and for You.

We are guided by a platform of conservative principles that include faith in God, family, and freedom. As our Founders acknowledged, we are endowed with certain inalienable rights from our Creator, and these should not be impeded by any individual. We urge you to take ownership of this Party.

We need involvement and leadership on your part and encourage you to embrace this opportunity to make a difference in your community. We can give you the tools you need to become a partner in the party. You will have access to your candidates, office holders and party officers. The Jefferson County Republican Party needs people to become precinct chairmen and block captains. We need sign teams and election workers. We need poll watchers to protect the integrity of the elections, and volunteers to help with the candidate’s campaigns. Most of all, we need voters in the primary election.

This is the time for us to find the courage to oversee the offices that we go to the polls to defend. We will strive to find candidates who want to serve, selflessly, with a spirit of sacrifice, not self fulfillment.

An unprecedented election is about to unfold in the March Republican Primary. Texas will likely have a major role in deciding who will go on the Presidential ballot against President Obama. We will have an open Senate race determining who will represent Texas, to replace Kay Bailey Hutchinson. We have newly drawn Congressional districts, so Jefferson County Republican Party may have the opportunity to elect a candidate to serve us in the next Congress. We have newly drawn Texas House and Senate seats to vote on, and with local officials on the ballot as well, this will be a Primary like none we have ever been involved in before.

Therefore, we must be prepared and our work must start now if we intend on making an impact in these races.

Please partner with me for an historic push to recapture what has actually always belonged to us from the beginning.

Jim
